PTE Academic Writing Strategies

PTE Academic Writing includes 2 types of tasks to answer and the total time allotted is 30 minutes.

Essay Writing:

You need to write an argumentative essay with a word length around 200-300 words. To complete the essay, the time provided is 20 minutes. You will have a prompt to respond.

Summarize Text:

The pattern of Summarizing Text questions creates an interest. You will have a text on the screen and you have to summarize the text in a single line including all the key elements in the text. Time limit is 10 minutes.

It is to remember that the word count in your summary should not go beyond 75 words and should be described only in 1 single line.

PTE Essay Writing:

Writing is an art and many feel it fascinating. But, the PTE Writing section has a specific form and you should be aware of the correct form to satisfy all the marking parameters.

Surprisingly, we will come across multiple answers. But, in simple terms, you should understand the pte-specific format to crack the task. You should have a strong grip on grammar, vocabulary and a sense of logic.

Now, here are the strategies to understand;

Never Complicate, Make it Simple:

Convolution and many twists in your sentence construction is never your friend. In a sentence, keep your word length 10-14 to keep it simple. Also, you can avoid grammatical mistakes. The graders only look for the clarity in your idea and the logical support you contribute to the matter.

Your First Step is to Plan:

Question yourself, “What happens while writing an essay?” The answer is that you will tend to distract your ideas and wander around the subject of interest. Consequence, you would run out of time. Do not think to simply start writing waiting for the ideas to flow in the mind.

Instead, plan beforehand and decide where to start and stop. Planning is not a waste of time and we assure that it will not take much of your time. Besides, planning according to the time limit is a smart move in any examination.

Follow the Perfect Format:

In general, when we mean a PTE essay, it is a text of 4-5 paragraphs in which top and bottom are introduction and conclusion with body paragraphs in between.

But in some cases, it is unrealistic to write a 300 words essay in a span of 20 minutes with complete reasoning.

So, always remember to find the right form by answering the question exactly and structuring your response beforehand.

Master Vocabulary (Academic):

You can learn vocabulary through many resources such as newspapers, magazines, novels, articles etc. You can also perfect your understanding skills by reading. You can also use flashcards by writing a certain number of new words and learn.

PTE Summarizing the Text:

Summarizing text is not only a tough task but also an interesting one. Even potential candidates may find this challenging because of the determined limits and marking parameters. But, with a few strategies, you can write an impressive summary.

Analyze the Text:

Understand the given text with complete attention. Analyze the context and intent of the text. Also, analyze the style and tone of the author.

Summary Structure:

There are primarily 2 ideas to consider (main idea and supporting idea). Therefore, you should note the main idea, key points along with the supporting ideas. So, plan your summary with one main idea, key points, and 2-3 supporting ideas along with the intention of the text.

Complex Vocabulary:

When you summarize the text, you might generally paraphrase it within 5-75 words. So, you require writing complex sentences with good use of vocabulary (conjunctions, adjectives and adverbs). Important, you must not copy the exact words from the text. You should rewrite it in your own style.

Practice:

Undoubtedly, the most crucial part of your preparation is practice. Work on as many samples as possible to gain the knack in identifying the key points. Practice will make you productive as well as confidence.
